The controls have been built to look, feel and move just like the original equipment and the switches have the same simulated functions as in the real armoured fighting vehicle. The main housings of the hand controls are machined from high quality aluminium and the hand grips are either cast aluminium or plastic, using the original equipment for reference. Precision steel shafts rotate on roller bearings, actuating industrial grade potentiometers to provide left and right traverse and elevation and depression movements of the simulated weapon. The electronics have been selected to provide a combination of trouble free usage and longevity. Using quality components ensures that the units are extremely robust and long lasting. All the  controls are connected to the PC via the USB port and use standard Microsoft Windows joystick drivers. The controls bolt directly to the desktop for extra security or a specially deigned clamp can be supplied.

The units are designed and manufactured using modern computer controlled machinery and CAD/CAM software. Each unit is assembled by hand and tested individually. Reliability tests have shown over 1500 hours usage without failure.

AFV Sims controls are used in several armour training schools in Europe.
